Could You Benefit From ADHD Testing?

Do you have trouble with concentration, organization, and executive functioning?

Do you wonder if your challenges align with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)?

And are you looking for a diagnosis and/or accommodations to help you achieve peak performance and productivity?

Our clients are bright, motivated, and successful individuals, but many of them feel held back by symptoms that tend to affect every aspect of life from their work to their relationships. Because they are high performing, a diagnosis of ADHD may have been overlooked when they were younger.

What Is Your Experience?

Common signs of ADHD that motivate our clients to get tested are:

  • Procrastination

  • Time management issues, causing them to double book or be chronically late

  • Forgetfulness and other memory issues

  • Becoming easily distracted

  • Low self-esteem due to feeling incompetent or “stupid”

With these clients, emotional lability—or quick, extreme mood changes—is often present, which ultimately affects their outlook and interpersonal relationships. Living this way can pose challenging obstacles on a day-to-day basis, but the good news is that help is available.

Through ADHD testing at PRGRS Therapy, you can be given clarity and direction in your search for relief. Our therapists will work with you to determine a diagnosis, necessary accommodations, and practical, personalized tools that will allow you to thrive.

Why Is It Necessary To Test For ADHD?

For decades, ADHD has been considered a condition primarily affecting children. However, recent data show that around 8 million American adults—more than 5 percent of the population—meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis. Unfortunately, many people white-knuckle their way through symptoms, assuming that their forgetfulness, distractibility, and moodiness are just par for the course. And even if they’re aware of having ADHD, they may not be aware of non-medicinal approaches or proper accommodations that could offer substantial improvement in symptoms and quality of life.

We’re still in the process of understanding how to sufficiently screen adults for ADHD. Many medical and mental health providers might assume that if ADHD wasn’t present in childhood, it’s likely not the root issue now. Furthermore, those struggling may self-diagnose using the internet and social media. Misdiagnosis runs rampant within this condition, which leads to inadequate treatment.

Having the clarity of a diagnosis through a thorough ADHD assessment paves the way toward effective treatment and helpful accommodations. ADHD testing can serve as the “jumping off” point for identifying which interventions will work best. At PRGRS Therapy, we’re pleased to offer evaluations and treatment that not only provides an answer but also a plan for how to meaningfully tackle ADHD-related challenges.

ADHD Evaluations For Adults Are Available Through PRGRS Therapy

When it comes to testing for ADHD, there are a lot of avenues a client can take. On the one hand, there may be incomplete assessment methods that don’t fully capture the extent of a diagnosis or treatment plan; on the other hand, there are extensive and time-consuming neuropsychological assessments that can be cost-prohibitive for many. Our practice falls somewhere in the middle, relying on self-reporting, diagnostic interviews, and clinically validated assessment tools.

ADHD testing through PRGRS Therapy is available to adults only. Our goal is to offer an accurate diagnosis that doesn’t cost too much of your time, energy, and resources.

What To Expect

The ADHD testing process is designed to be fluid and individualized to your specific concerns. We will schedule a consultation with you before the diagnostic interview to ensure that our ADHD evaluation and treatment approach is a good fit for what you’re looking for.

You will then be asked to complete a range of screeners before your interview. After these are completed, we will schedule a virtual meeting with you to review the results of the screeners and gather more information through interviews to assess if a diagnosis of ADHD is present.

This process takes around 2 to 4 hours, typically over the span of two sessions, and results are usually processed in about a week. For an additional fee, we are happy to create a thorough report including recommended accommodations to help make school- or work-related tasks more manageable. Moreover, we provide coaching and therapy—using Dialectical Behavior Therapy—to help enhance executive functioning. You can read more about this approach on our DBT page.

A formal ADHD evaluation can offer you clarity and peace of mind. But most importantly, testing can be the gateway to meaningful treatment that can significantly improve your quality of life. Working together, we can clear those ADHD-related barriers that have been getting in the way of a focused, fulfilling, and productive life.

Frequently Asked Questions About ADHD Testing…

Why should I go through testing when I already know my symptoms align with ADHD?

We certainly recognize that you know yourself best, but self-diagnosis is not always accurate or sufficient when it comes to ADHD. A thorough, personalized evaluation by a professional can ensure that an alternative diagnosis or other issues aren’t being overlooked; it also points you in the direction of beneficial treatment. In some cases, ADHD testing is required in order to receive accommodations for work and/or school.

Isn’t ADHD testing very costly?

Some ADHD evaluation methods, like neuropsychological testing, can be prohibitively expensive. This extent of testing is not necessary for most people, but overly simplified testing can lead to misdiagnosis. We provide assessments that fall somewhere in the middle, offering comprehensive ADHD testing without being overly excessive or costly.

How long does the ADHD evaluation process take?

Between the at-home self-reporting portion and diagnostic interview, our ADHD assessment process takes between 2 and 4 hours. Results are usually available in a week, and a report can typically be generated within two weeks of a request.
